Low Back Pain is one of the most common ailments for people of all walks of life. It truly can affect anyone. The most common muscles responsible for Low Back Pain are the Quadratus Lumborum (QL) and the Gluteus Medius.

There was a new study conducted and it randomly assigned 400 adults with moderate-to-severe Low Back Pain lasting for at least three months to either weekly whole-body massages for relaxation, weekly massages that focused on specific muscle problems around the lower back and hips, or usual care. Usual care was defined as those who could seek other treatment through Doctors, Chiropractors, medications etc.

After 10 weeks, participants in both massage groups reported greater average improvements in pain and functioning compared to those in the usual care group. And the type of massage they received didn’t seem to matter. At the end of the 10-week intervention, 36% and 39% of patients in the massage groups said their pain was nearly or completely gone, compared to 4% in the usual care group.

There are many different types of modalities that can be used for Low Back Pain. Swedish Massage and Deep Tissue Massage are the most common. I found that it takes a variety of techniques to get individuals feeling better as quickly as possible. Using Trigger Point Therapy and Cupping are two additional technique tools that I have used a lot with outstanding results.
