More people of all ages are turning away from conventional medicine and discovering the true benefits of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). They are finding that they can reduce or eliminate medications, injections and/or surgeries with other type of treatments that do not mask or cover up the pain. Using CAM, practitioners treat the problem and educate the individual of what are the most likely reasons for the cause of the pain(s) so the individual can prevent it from occurring in the future.
Complementary & Alternative Medicine is fast becoming the first stop to alleviate pain. A study done in 2007 the United States, approximately 38 percent of adults (about 4 in 10) and approximately 12 percent of children (about 1 in 9) are using some form of CAM.
There are many different kinds of CAM including but not limited to:
- Body movement therapies
- Tai chi
- Chiropractic and osteopathic medicine
- Deep Breathing
Touch has been used in medicine since the early days of medical care. Healing by touch is based on the idea that illness or injury in one area of the body can affect all parts of the body. If, with manual manipulation, the other parts can be brought back to optimum health, the body can fully focus on healing at the site of injury or illness. Body techniques are often combined with those of the mind.
If you’ve never tried massage, I would encourage you to contact me by phone or email to explain how I can treat you so you can get your body in optimal health.
Consult a physician, chiropractor or physical therapist to learn the cause of your discomfort. Alert me to any and all diagnoses, medical conditions, physical limitations or pain. Please tell me about your comfort and any sensations you have during and after your massage. Depending on the duration and cause of your condition, it is likely to take several massages to help you find relief. In some cases I will ask for you to allow me to consult with your other medical practitioners so we can work together to assist you.
